Joshua Kerrigan: More Important Yacht Safety Equipment

Life preservers, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits are certainly important parts of keeping yacht trips safe, but they aren’t all the safety equipment you’ll need. Joshua Kerrigan advises having the following onboard, as well.

Sound-making items. Whether to signal your presence and intentions to other crafts or to make noise in the event of an emergency, horns, bells, whistles, and similar devices are extremely important.

Visual distress signals. Flares, lights, and other distress signals that are visible during both the light hours and at night are extremely important, especially for those who take long distance trips over open water. Joshua Kerrigan and his staff have an extensive supply of distress materials that their clients can choose from.

Spare parts. Spare pieces for the engine and other systems can mean the difference between your yacht being stranded, and you being able to make a quick repair and get back to shore. If you own a yacht, Joshua Kerrigan highly recommends learning how to do basic maintenance in case you ever have issues while at sea, or at the very least enrolling in a boat towing program.

Communication devices. A mobile phone, radio, or other communication device is a must-have, and Joshua Kerrigan recommends having multiple types on board to cover the eventuality of dead batteries, poor signals, and the like. A communication device is simply common sense: if you become stranded, have a medical emergency, or need any other type of assistance, you’ll need to be able to get in contact with your local authority or any yachting organizations of which you may be a member.

This list is, of course, not exhaustive, and Joshua Kerrigan advises contacting your local yachting organization or other authority to find out exactly what you are required to have onboard your yacht in the eyes of the law.

Joshua Kerrigan: Stay in Shape Doing the Things You Love

Physical fitness is very important to Joshua Kerrigan, the founder and owner of Yacht Management, a company based in Florida. However, you won’t find Kerrigan running loops around a parking lot or working out on machines at the local gym. Rather, Joshua Kerrigan believes that life is too short to spend working out in boring ways. He loves to get his daily exercise in doing the activities he loves.

Joshua Kerrigan loves diving in the Bahamas whenever he gets the chance. Diving can be a great cardiovascular exercise. Once you have all of the equipment on, you’ll definitely start to “feel the burn” in your body – in the best possible way!

Joshua Kerrigan also loves to swim. Swimming has been touted for many years as one of the best injury-proof ways to exercise. Unlike running and lifting weights, there’s no impact between your body and another surface when swimming, which makes it a really safe way to exercise.

Of course, these are just Joshua Kerrigan’s preferences. You should exercise doing the things that you love! Not sure what they are? Perhaps Joshua Kerrigan can help with these questions…

  • Do you like being indoors or outdoors? If you prefer to be indoors, then there are tons of great indoor sports like racquetball and basketball that can be fun workouts. If you like to be outdoors, why not do something like paddle boarding? Joshua Kerrigan recently started doing “SUP” Stand Up Paddle boarding three times a week.
  • Do you prefer competitive sports or individual activities? Everyone has their own preference on this. Though Joshua Kerrigan has his competitive nature, he usually prefers non-competitive activities like diving and paddle boarding. However, to each his own!

The bottom line is this: exercise is important. So, do what Joshua Kerrigan does, and get active!
